Eastern eyes and Endless Love : The magic of ‘Yaram’

Yaram is a novel by Sumaira Hameed that tells the story of Amraha and Aliyan, two university students who fall in love despite their different backgrounds and cultures. The novel explores the themes of selfless love, true friendship, overcoming fear, and learning from the past. It also features a variety of characters, each with their own personality and story. The novel has received positive reviews from readers who enjoyed the humor, sincerity, betrayal, sadness, and emotions in the book.

Amraha is a Pakistani girl who is considered unlucky by her family because of a superstition. She suffers from low self-esteem and depression, but her grandfather encourages her to pursue her dreams of studying abroad. She gets a scholarship to the University of Manchester, where she meets Aliyan, a British Muslim who is the center of everyone’s attention. Aliyan is a charming, confident, and generous person, but he also has a dark past that haunts him. He was raised by Lady Mehr, a powerful and conservative Pakistani woman who disapproves of his lifestyle and choices.

Amraha and Aliyan become friends and soon develop feelings for each other. However, their relationship faces many challenges and obstacles, such as cultural differences, family pressures and social norms

University of Manchester is filled with people from all backgrounds.She meets various people which includes Veera, a strong russian girl who can manage to do anything. Carl, Aaliyan’s bestfriend and naughty and Sai, an emotional support for entire university students. Each character was distinct in their own way and supported the entire story. The poetic language used in the novel adds charm to the romantic aspect of the story.

The writer justified the struggles of international students and showed Manchester with the use of vivid description. The proposal scene in dragon prade was beautifully written and the emotional conversation between Amarha and her grandfather bring tears to the eyes.

Overall, it is interesting novel especially if you are a student and planning to study abroad.
